Major spatial and structural changes were made in n this renovation that involved combining three apartments on the upper floors of a former merchant´s house. The building dates back to the middle ages but two floors had been added in the 18th century.Three apartments were transformed into a penthouse with 5 levels, including a small tower lookout. It is like a vertical modern house on top of the original structure, where sliding glass walls and modern elements contrast with old details..

The design of this house for a couple and their three children is based on a structural module of 3,50 m that allows for the creation of diaphanous continuous spaces between the interior and the exterior. Located on a small site in an unexceptional suburban area, north of Barcelona, the design takes the maximum advantage of the parcel and zoning limitations that basically required that the volume be situated dead center in the lot.

COTONERS CUBE

This project involved creating a staircase and glass element in order to connect a small multilevel apartment with the roof above, which was owned by the client but had no access from the apartment. The building dates back to the 16th century.
An intervention was made into a courtyard, adding a sense of much more space and natural illumination.

FONTSERÉ APARTMENTS RENOVATION

This apartment is located in a historic 19th century urban ensemble built by Antoni Gaudí teacher, Josep Fontseré. The buildings were constructed at the same time as the Ciutadella Park and border it. The apartment was extremely run down and the project involved restructuring the interior for contemporary times, recuperating details and opening the small rooms up.

This renovation involved making the most out of the views and possibilities of a poorly built brick structure added to the top of a historic arcaded building during the Franco era… In the renovation project every advantage was made of the privileged panoramic views offered by the location.The entry level kitchen, living and dining rooms were reformulated. Additional windows were opened up and a metal and wood stair organizes the space. A bedroom and bath occupy the upper level, where once again windows were added.A series of terraces were developed.

NOTARIAT APARTAMENTS

This renovation for a married couple, a graphic designer and a painter and their three small children,involved the transformation of a 19th century apartment in the Raval neighbourhood.The original apartment was broken down into many small rooms. In the midst of knocking down a series of these partitions, it was discovered that the apartment in fact had a not very typical metallic structure, consisting of iron columns and beams holding up a Catalan vaulted ceiling. Since none of the walls were structural the project concentrated on opening up the apartment to the maximum, while still retaining private bedrooms, and creating a bathroom of concrete work.The floor plan is a “U” with a small outside terrace and bridge.
PobleNou
POBLE NOU RENOVATION

This renovation of a 19th century apartment in the working class neighbourhood of Poble Nou involved opening up the typology of small rooms connected by a corridor. The project has a bricolage sensibility, recycling all kinds of materials and stripping the apartment down to its essentials, revealing the wood beams. The kitchen and bathrooms have been fabricated with cement. The client, who is a metal worker did the construction and built the furniture elements himself.

This transformation of a ground floor commercial space with a back garden involvedstripping the apartment bare of small rooms and revealing the constructive layers, including the wood beams and Catalan vaulted ceiling, the stone walls etc.The design deals with the difference in levels of 1.50m from the street level to the garden, by creating a series of stairs and plat-forms for different activities.A mezzanine level had to removed and will be partially replaced with a bedroom level on top of the existing wooden beams.Storage elements have been designed in corten steel.
